What are MLCC Stacked Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors?

Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) work as a 'dam' that temporarily charges and discharges electricity. They regulate the current's flow in a circuit and prevent electromagnetic interference between components. Because thickness of single dielectric and number of stacked layers are related with electrical capacity, technology for reducing single layer thickness and stacking more layers is important.

Kyocera’s SMX-style, stacked Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPs) Capacitors utilizing Multi-layer Ceramic (MLCC) construction are ideally suited for high temperature applications up to 2000C. This product is intended for down-hole oil exploration, including logging while drilling, geophysical probes, as well as space and aerospace electronics. The high temperature solder utilized in the construction of SMX-style parts assures reliable operation in harsh environments.

The wide product offering provides designers a solution for high capacitance value and high voltage capacitors rated at 2000C. The SMX-style capacitors are ideally suited for applications like DC filters in high power, high frequency motor drives, and high pulsed-current circuitry, as well as low power electronics.

Kemet’s Low loss (KPS MCL) high temperature SMPS ceramic stacked capacitors offer high thermal stability and high ripple current capability. They feature a C0G/NPO base metal electrode (BME) dielectric system with a durable lead-frame technology. They have straight pin lead wires for through-hole mounting.

These industrial grade products have low ESR and ESL, and provide high frequency performance and bulk capacitance in a reduced footprint.
