                      Product Overview

                      MAX14878AWA+ is a high-speed transceiver that improves communication and safety by integrating galvanic isolation between the CAN protocol controller side of the device and the physical wires of the network (CAN) bus. Isolation improves communication by breaking ground loops and reduces noise where there are large differences in ground potential between ports. This transceiver features integrated protection for robust communication. The receiver input common-mode range is ±25V, exceeding the ISO 11898 specification of -2V to +7V, and is fault tolerant up to ±54V. Driver outputs/receiver inputs are also protected from ±15kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) to GNDB on the bus side, as specified by the human body model (HBM). It is approved by UL according to UL1577 (basic insulation), It is used in applications such as industrial controls, HVAC, building automation, switching gear.

                      • Dominant timeout protection, ±54V fault protection on receiver inputs
                      • ±25V receiver input common-mode range
                      • VDDA supply current is 0.34mA typical at (VDDA = 5V, (VDDA = 1.71V to 5.5V)
                      • Short-circuit current is 75mA typical at (VTXD = 0V, CANH shorted to GNDB)
                      • Input leakage current (DC bus receiver) is 310μA max at (VDDB = 0V, VCANH = VCANL = 5V)
                      • Differential driver output rise time is 20ns max at (RL = 60 ohm, CL = 100pF, RCM is open)
                      • TXD propagation delay is 95ns max at (RL = 60 ohm, CL = 100pF, RCM open)
                      • 3.5KVRMS isolation voltage
                      • Operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, 8-pin WSOIC package
