Product Information
Product Overview
APDS-9930 is a digital proximity and ambient light sensor. It provides digital ambient light sensing (ALS), IR LED, and a complete proximity detection system in a single 8-pin package. The proximity function offers plug-and-play detection to 100mm (without front glass) thus eliminating the need for factory calibration of the end equipment or sub-assembly. The proximity detection feature operates well from bright sunlight to dark rooms. The wide dynamic range also allows for operation in short-distance detection behind dark glass such as a cell phone. In addition, an internal state machine provides the ability to put the device into a low-power mode in between ALS and proximity measurements providing very low average power consumption. Applications include cell phone backlight dimming, cell phone touch-screen disable, notebook/monitor security, automatic speakerphone enable, automatic menu pop-up, and digital camera eye sensor.
- Programmable interrupt function with upper and lower threshold
- Approximates human eye response, up to 16bit resolution
- High sensitivity operates behind darkened glass, low lux performance at 0.01 lux
- Fully calibrated to 100mm detection, integrated IR LED and synchronous LED driver
- Wait state power is 90µA typical, programmable from 2.7ms to > 8sec
- Up to 400KHz (I²C fast-mode), dedicated interrupt pin
- Supply current is 195µA typical at (active (ATIME=0xdb, 100ms))
- Leakage current, LDR pin is 10µA maximum at (VDD = 3V, TA = 25°C)
- Optical rise time is 20ns typical at (IFP = 100mA, VDD = 3V, TA = 25°C)
- Operating ambient temperature range from -30°C to 85°C, small package L3.94 x W2.36 x H1.35mm
